A research led by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) has developed a molecular switch by an electrical stimulus can change the state of a molecule and allows monitoring of both optical and magnetic. The results of the study, published in the online edition of latest issue of the journal Nature Chemistry, respond to the growing demand for fabrication of devices to store information increasingly powerful and small.
"The molecules are the functional components smaller than one can imagine. In our work we show that can act as memory bits, and that a small group of them can be locally activated and switched between two states, plus you can read the information it contains, "says researcher CSIC Concepció Rovira, the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona.
